We weigh the impact of an ingredient from manufacture to end-use, considering whether the finished ingredient may cause harm AND also whether the upstream effects from the way it is manufactured create significant hazards to people and the planet. We know what we don’t carry and why. We have a list of potentially toxic ingredients that are an automatic NO for any new product seeking entry to our body care department. We are consistently updating this standard as further information becomes available. Case in point— we are currently discontinuing all personal care products containing cyclopentasiloxane because of its significant contribution to air pollution.

Our mission is to bring you a well-rounded selection of effective hygiene and beauty essentials that use the least toxic ingredients available within each category. We require samples of all new and reformulated products along with complete ingredient lists, which our team of in-house experts scrutinizes for purity and quality. We stay in-the-know on the latest information about cosmetics and new ingredients entering the market so that we can offer you safer selections within a highly unregulated industry.
