Quercetin really shines during the change of seasons and any time allergies and hay fever are at their peak. That’s because quercetin exerts an anti-allergy effect by inhibiting the release of pro-inflammatory compounds, like histamine, that cause allergy symptoms, including itching, sneezing, watery eyes, runny noses, and bronchoconstriction. In a 2022 placebo-controlled, double-blind study on 66 subjects between the ages of 22 and 78 with allergic symptoms, those taking 200 mg of oral quercetin daily for four weeks saw a significant improvement versus the placebo group. According to the results, “eye itching, sneezing, nasal discharge, and sleep disorder were sig nificantly improved in the quercetin-containing supplement group compared with the placebo group. Furthermore, the quality of life of these subjects significantly improved based on the original questionnaire and visual analog scale.”
